Isabelle Le Minh (FR)Worshipers of the sun « Worshipers of the sun » is part of the project After photography. This title refers to the post-modern practice of citation as developed in the eighties by artists of appropriation art (such as Elaine Sturtevant or Sherrie Levine) but also to the plethora of exhibitions and recent publications that let suppose that we have now entered into the era of post-photography. The rule that I set to myself is that each element of this work in progress should refer as far as possible to an artist of relevance in respect to my artistic background and whose work will be an opportunity for speculating on the nature of the image as well as for questioning the tools and means of photographic production through the history, « myths », iconography or sound bites of the medium. Using each time a different protocol, the works may be of any nature (drawing, painting, sculpture, installation, text…). The desire of testing the materiality of the image, of experimenting the limits of photography and of introducing words and language into my work – if possible through a « mental gymnastics » involving collisions and links – are the mainspring of my approach. Although autonomous, the works belonging to this project are likely to resonate with each other and may be interpreted at different levels. Condensing multiple meanings, they attempt to combine with humour some more or less identifiable references, tributes or quotations. It is therefore a project of rather conceptual nature. » Isabelle Le Minh French artist born in Schötmar (Germany) in 1965. Graduated from the Ismra-Ensi Caen in 1988 and from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure de la Photographie d’Arles in 1996. With an engineering degree, Isabelle Le Minh settled in Berlin in 1989 to work as a patent examiner. She finally left behind her career to devote herself to photography.Whereas in her earlier works she was concerned by the photographic representation of the real, the digital revolution and the vagaries of life led her to then drift away from photography to reflect upon the image in a broader way and to extend her area of creation to contemporary art. She now conceives resolutely conceptual works, which take all manner of forms .The artist is also a curator and an archivist specialized in contemporary art. She teaches photography at the Esadhar – Le havre-Rouen Highschool of Art & Design. She is represented by the Christophe Gaillard Gallery in Paris. www.theshadowswilltakecareofthemselves.net | ![]() Isabelle Le Minh, Les liseuses - Susan Sontag | ![]() Isabelle Le Minh, Trop tôt, trop tard (after Henri Cartier-Bresson) 2008 | ![]() Isabelle Le Minh, Re-play (after Christian Marclay), 2009 | ![]() Isabelle Le Minh, Les liseuses-Roland Barthes | ![]() Isabelle Le Minh Lointain si proche, huile sur toile, 2012 |
