Christian Milovanoff travaille depuis 2012 sur des séries successives intitulées Attraction, montages d’images issues de ses archives personnelles - constats de l’état du monde aujourd’hui où l’histoire se mêle à la géographie. L’exposition est l’occasion de réunir trois séries : Attraction 0 et Attractions 2 inédites et Attraction 1 présentée en 2012 au Musée Réattu durant les Rencontres de la Photographie d’Arles. La projection du film Travail dramaturgique autour du livre BUREAUX (39mn, 2017) vient compléter l’exposition.

Les peintures du musée du Louvre à Paris et celles de la Staatsgalerie à Stuttgart, la Rome antique, les bureaux, le supermarché, les bas-reliefs assyriens, la grande ville de Pittsburgh, autant de lieux que, depuis plus de trente ans, Christian Milovanoff photographie. Reproduire, monter, archiver, documenter, raconter, voilà les maîtres mots à l’oeuvre dans son travail mi-documentaire, mi-fictionnel, comme une tentative d’organiser le chaos du visible. Christian Milovanoff a notamment exposé au Louvre, au Musée Niepce de Chalon sur Saône et au Musée Réattu d’Arles durant les Rencontres de la Photographie 2012.

Le film Travail dramaturgique autour du livre BUREAUX a reçu le soutien de la Fondation Nationale des Arts Graphiques et Plastiques (FNAGP).


Christian Milovanoff was born in 1948 in Nîmes.  Between 1980 and 1986, Christian Milovanoff captured detailed views of Old Master paintings at the Louvre, photographically deconstructing these works to increasing levels of abstraction. From 1984 to 1986, he participated, along with twenty-seven other international photographers, in a special project for the DATAR (the French ministerial delegation for territorial planning and regional action). He chose office spaces as the subject of this work, with reference to 17th-century Dutch paintings of interiors. Archiving and montage remain primary concerns for the artist. In 1994, the Saint-Etienne Museum of Modern Art presented his Supermarket series, comprised of photographs of packaged consumer goods, stocked and stacked on the shelves of large retail chain stores. At the Frick Art and Historical Center in 2002, Christian Milovanoff exhibited his Conversation Pieces, named after the informal group portraits popular in the 18th century, particularly in England.

Christian Milovanoff has worked since 2012 on consecutive series called Attraction, images assembled from his personal archives – observations of the state of the world today where history combines with geography. The exhibition is an opportunity to bring three series together: Attraction 0 and Attractions 2 previously unseen and Attraction 1 presented in 2012 at the Musée Réattu during the Rencontres de la Photographie d’Arles. The projection of the film Travail dramaturgique autour du livre BUREAUX (39min, 2017) complements the exhibition.
